2007 Christmas Cookie Review

SUGAR COOKIES

(Maria helped with the sprinkles...)

I was most intrigued with the "secret ingredient" of cream cheese in these cookies. They didn't really blow me away but I had a hard time telling how long to bake them for. I'll probably try a different recipe next time..
The frosting didn't really blow me away either but it did the job.

CHOCOLATE MINT COOKIES

These were pretty durn good. I just bought a bunch of Andes mints, split them in half, and you let them melt on top of the cookies when they come out of the oven. You then spread them around once they are melted. These got kind of hard after about a week and a half and I wasn't using any tricks to keep them soft..

GINGER COOKIES

These were spectacular and they weren't chocolate!!! These stayed soft for the whole two weeks they existed in our house. Maria helped me with rolling them in the sugar.

OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

These were OK. Didn't blow me away. They got pretty hard after a week but again, I wasn't using any tricks to keep them soft.

And finally, this one I didn't even take a picture of it because I did not like them at all. Never mix chocolate and fruit if you are baking for me.. I was intriqued about working with almond paste for the first time and with the name of the recipe "Italian Wedding". It was definitely something different and I'm sure it tasted fine to everyone else. But like I said, NEVER mix chocolate with fruit!!

You have been busy! You are making me feel bad though, I wanted to make cookies this week and didn't :( Maybe I will now, they all look SO good!

The cookie review! A great idea. I was really happy with our gingersnaps this year too. We also made banana chocolate chip biscotti. Recipe is in a book, not on the net. It might cause you to rethink your no mixing chocolate and fruit stance.

Lovely photos. The Mint Chocolate Chip cookies are right up my alley.

Don't knock the fruit and chocolate combo just yet. I made cranberry and white chocolate cookies about a month ago that weren't all that bad. Here's the link of you ever muster up the courage to give it another go.

Chris, did I ever give you the recipe for the butter cookies we've made for Xmas, Valentine's Day? I had to throw out the dough because I never got a chance to bake them this Xmas.
